Today, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, inaugurated the two-day Annual Sports Meet-2025 at the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar. The event took place at the Boys Hostel playground in Bemina and marks a significant occasion for the medical community.
While addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Minister Itoo emphasized the vital connection between physical and mental well-being of healthcare professionals and the quality of healthcare delivery. She commended GMC Srinagar for organizing the sports meet, underscoring that sports and recreational activities are crucial for stress management. This holds particular significance for both students and professionals working in high-pressure medical environments.
To enhance the sports culture, Minister Itoo urged the GMC administration to upgrade facilities at the Boys Hostel playground. She aimed to ensure better access to those sports facilities to encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities, which are increasingly recognized as essential for holistic development.
The Annual Sports Meet-2025, meticulously planned and organized under the leadership of Chairman Sports Committee Dr. Salim Iqbal, features an array of sporting and recreational events. Participants will engage in popular games such as cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, and carrom. Moreover, traditional games like tug of war, musical chair and track and field events including 100m, 200m, 400m, relay, shot put, javelin throw, and discus throw are central to the activities.

The event draws significant attention, with attendance from notable figures including Principal Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Administrator Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Heads of Departments, Medical Superintendents, faculty members, students, and staff, all coming together to celebrate the importance of sports in education.
