Priyanka Gandhi Criticizes Election Commission’s Voter List Revision

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly opposed the Election Commission’s (EC) proposal for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Kerala on Wednesday, during her visit to the Wayanad constituency. She expressed concerns that the SIR process aims to manipulate electoral rolls, following similar patterns seen in other states.

During a press interaction, Priyanka asserted, “The Election Commission is planning to carry out the SIR of voter lists in many states, including Kerala, and we will robustly oppose it.” She highlighted that the Congress party had already confronted the EC regarding similar issues in Parliament and on the streets.

Allegations of fraud echoed in her comments as she stated, “This is the only way of committing fraud and cheating in the election.” Priyanka emphasized that the SIR exercise threw democratic processes into jeopardy, referencing previous implementations in Bihar as detrimental examples.

“We have seen what they did in Bihar and how they implemented SIR there,” she continued. “If they plan to continue this in every state, it is an affront to democracy, and we must fight it.” Her comments illustrate the Congress party’s determination to challenge the EC’s actions vigorously.

Earlier in the day, Priyanka inaugurated the newly constructed Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Ayurveda Dispensary in Ernad, Malappuram district, part of her constituency. Her visit included plans to inaugurate various development projects, showcasing her commitment to local issues.

She arrived at Karipur Airport in the morning and traveled to Wayanad by road, where local party leaders anticipated her participation in several event inaugurations. The timing of her visit aligns with ongoing discussions about the integrity of the electoral process, spotlighting the importance of transparent and fair electoral practices in India.
