Jammu, October 16, 2025 — Senior leaders of the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party Bhim, under the leadership of Party President Advocate Vilakshan Singh, today paid rich tributes to the Jammu Student Martyrs of 1966, who sacrificed their lives during a historic students’ movement led by Prof. Bhim Singh against injustice and discrimination in Jammu & Kashmir.
In October 1966, a student-led movement under the leadership of Prof. Bhim Singh had emerged from GGM Science College, Jammu, demanding justice and equality for the people of Jammu. On October 16, 1966, three students — Brij Mohan, Subhash Chandra, and Gulshan Handa — were martyred when police opened fire inside the GGM College premises. Two days later, on October 18, student leader Gurcharan Singh was also martyred in Kanak Mandi, Jammu, when police fired upon a peaceful procession.
While paying homage, Vilakshan Singh recalled the courage and determination of Prof. Bhim Singh, who narrowly escaped police bullets while leading the student movement. He said, “The supreme sacrifices of these young martyrs paved the way for the establishment of not just one university but numerous higher educational and professional institutions across Jammu Pradesh. Their martyrdom is a reminder that every right earned in Jammu has come through struggle and sacrifice.”
Singh emphasized that even today, the people of Jammu continue to face discrimination and that unity among students and youth is essential to safeguard their rights. He appealed to all student organizations—from schools to universities—to stay organized and vigilant against forces that discriminate against the Dogra community and the Jammu region.
Prominent party leaders including Naresh Chib, Sanju Bhagat, Rakesh Gupta, , Sanjeev Verma, , Rajan Jamwal and several others also joined in paying floral tributes to the student martyrs, reaffirming their commitment to uphold the ideals for which the martyrs laid down their lives.
