Nineteen-year-old Aarav Mahajan from Jammu has earned a call-up to the Uttarakhand Ranji Trophy squad for the upcoming domestic cricket season. His selection follows a remarkable run of form in several age-group tournaments, showcasing his consistency with the bat.
Aarav’s impressive performance includes nearly 700 runs, featuring three centuries and three fifties at the under-19 level, particularly in prestigious tournaments like the Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19), Vinoo Mankad Trophy, and the CK Nayudu Trophy (U-23). He has also left his mark in the U-23 format with a notable score of 87 runs, indicating his ability as a top-order batter.
His participation in three National Cricket Academy (NCA) camps, including one at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, reflects his dedication to the sport. Last season, he ranked 17th among the top U-19 run-getters in India. Despite narrowly missing out on a national call-up, his consistent performances have definitely put him on the radar for higher honours.
Cricket experts view Aarav’s selection as a significant step in his journey toward senior-level cricket. His technique and temperament under pressure can contribute immensely to the team.
The Uttarakhand Ranji Trophy squad includes Kunal Chandela (Captain), Prashant Chopra, Bhupendra Lalwani, Avneesh Sudha, Yuvraj Chaudhry, Shashank Dangwak, Anjana Suryavanshi, Jagdeesha Suchit, Mayank Mishra, Harsh Patwal, Sourav Rawat (WK), Janamjai Joshi, Devendra Bora, Rajan Chaudhury, Abhey Negi, Jagmohan Nagarkoti, Sagar Rawat, and Aarav Mahajan.
Aarav’s remarkable journey highlights the importance of grassroots cricket in India.
