Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Meet for AAG Girls at Jammu

The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls kicked off today at the University of Jammu, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu. The event aims to foster athletic talent among young girls in Jammu.

Today, the opening day saw vibrant participation from around 300 girl athletes representing various government and private schools across the region. These young competitors showcased their skill and enthusiasm in multiple track and field events, proving their mettle in a highly charged atmosphere.

In the discus throw events, the competition heated up with Sweety Devi from Zone Marh claiming the gold medal in the U-19 category, while Konika Chib from Zone RS Pura and Renu from Zone Bishnah secured silver and bronze respectively. Nidhi Verma from Zone Satwari clinched gold in the U-17 category, with Kiran Kumari from Zone Bhalwal and Nirjala from Zone Bishnah rounding out the podium. In the U-14 event, Subhana from Zone Satwari emerged as the gold medalist, while Sonakshi from Zone Miran Sahib and Mansi from Zone Akhnoor took silver and bronze respectively.

The 100m races were equally thrilling. Damanpreet from Zone Bishnah secured the top spot in the U-14 category, followed by Nishta Sharma from Zone Jammu winning in the U-17. In the U-19 category, Shivani from Zone Jammu took the gold.

The excitement continued in the 400m events, where Sahiba Choudhary from Zone Dansal emerged as the winner in the U-14 category, while Nishta Sharma from Zone Jammu again showcased her prowess to dominate the U-17 segment.

In the fiercely contested 300m race, athlete Mehak from Zone Jammu won the gold in the U-19 category, and Sonia Choudhary from Zone Dansal excelled in the U-17 category. High jump events also produced remarkable performances. Shriya Bhagat (U-14, Zone Chowki Choura), Rohika Devi (U-17, Zone Chowki Choura), and Payal Kumari (U-19, Zone Chowki Choura) triumphed in their respective age groups, each seizing the gold medal.

The district athletic meet aims to inspire a culture of sports among girls and provide them a platform to excel in athletics. The District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Jammu, along with technical officials, including Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, and Vijay Sharma, presented medals to the top performers.

In their speeches, officials congratulated the winners and encouraged all participants to uphold values of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. This competition not only highlights the athletic talents of young girls but also promotes inclusivity in sports.
