Unity Run Celebrates 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Patel

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, by organizing padyatras across all districts from October 31 to November 25. The initiative aims to connect youth with the ideals of national unity championed by Patel.

The campaign, named ‘Sardar@150’, launched by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Defence Nikhil Khadse, took place at Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi. This monumental event underscores Patel’s legacy of unifying India.

“Sardar@150 is not merely a commemoration but a national movement to engage youth in nation-building. Just as Sardar Patel united over 560 princely states, this initiative seeks to channel the energy of young Indians towards strengthening national unity,” Mandaviya stated.

The nationwide padyatras will unfold in every of India’s 779 districts, spreading through various parliamentary constituencies. Each event will last three days, covering 8 to 10 kilometers daily, promoting physical fitness while honoring Patel’s enduring legacy.

Mandaviya emphasized the inclusive nature of the padyatras, stating that participation will extend even to opposition-ruled states, including West Bengal, which has recently faced flooding. He affirmed that the initiative transcends political affiliations.

“This has got nothing to do with politics, and I am sure there will be wholehearted participation irrespective of who is in power,” he asserted at the launch.

Notably, the padyatras will enlist Union Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and teams of volunteers from organizations like My Bharat, NSS, and NCC. These groups will help coordinate logistics while promoting cleanliness during the events.

Additionally, a special padyatra is scheduled for November 26 to December 6. It will cover 152 kilometers from Karamsad, Patel’s birthplace in Gujarat, to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia — the tallest statue in the world dedicated to him.

A highlight of this nationwide initiative includes 150 selected young leaders, chosen through a national-level quiz competition. They will participate in the symbolic padyatra, celebrating Patel’s distinguished contributions to India.

This engaging initiative not only commemorates Patel’s legacy but also emphasizes youth participation in nation-building efforts. By fostering a spirit of unity and camaraderie, the Sardar@150 Unity Run looks to inspire future generations to contribute proactively to India’s growth and integrity.
